Leah´s moly
Last week the download of the pics from the digicam to my Mac did´t work. Today somehow I managed to get the pics on my hard drive.
Here´s Leah´s moly "Enter the Carneval":

Leah's moly "Enter the Carneval"
When I hear Carneval, I immediately think of the Carneval at Venice. About 12 years ago I drove all night with the bus to Italy to spend the day there during carneval season and taking the same bus back home to Germany that evening. I loved it.
I had actually planned to draw the masks full white, but can you imagine that I haven´t got a white!!! I checked out the tons of colors my kids have and they also don´t have a white. But I like it like this too.
I took a picture of the complete moly too, but somehow my mac doesn´t recognize my camera any more. So I can´t download the pics. I´m not sure why, I haven´t had that before. Any ideas?

Lee´s Moly
I´m finally done with Lee´s Moly and sent it off to Joyce today morning. Of all the 4 Moly Exchange groups, this one has been the biggest challenge for me. I have great difficulties adding art to delicate and wonderful drawings like Lisa´s and Martha´s scenery. But now that I´m finally done with it, I´m okay with the results.
I continued Lisa´s landscape in light colors in the background and drew a colorful tree in the foreground.

Leah's moly "Enter the Carnival"
"Enter The Carnival" is on it's way to Germany!! I must say I had a lot of fun with this one. I love carnival character's costume the best of all costumes. Perhaps it is just me... but I swear there is always a creepy clown guy lurking in the shadows when ever I go to the carnival or circus...
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has been working on the past month!! :) Cheers!

Martha`s book "Place"
I feel that it`s been awhile since last time I received Lisa`s book, the pass few weeks I`ve been crazying busy and even didn`t have time doing my drawings seriousely.
so I was very happy when I found this in my doorhall, Thank you Kerstin! I absolutely love the stamps!! Thank you so much for taking my impudent request :P
The theme of Martha`s book is "Place", I myself love city view so I definitely add it to my entry.

Lee’s Moly
Finally ready to send Lee's moly to Kirsten! This is a little vacation spot my family visits every year. Bayhorse Lake is about 8 miles up in the mountains near Challis Idaho (a 4.5 hour drive from Boise where we live). Motor boats are not allowed on the lake so we take our raft out and/or fish from the docks. The fishing was fantastic this year and you can't beat the quite of the lake and mountains. I thought it would be fun to show a contrast to Lee's and Martha's tropical beaches. ;-)

Leah's Moly
This month I got to work in Leah's moly. Her theme is "Enter the Carnival". Great idea: this was sure fun to do.
I used an Ultra Fine Sharpie for the drawing this time around rather than my usual fountain pen, and the same watercolor pencils that I've been using, for color.

Martha'a Moly "Place"
My addition to Martha's moly. My place is the school carnival that that I took the kids to last Friday evening. I tried to keep Martha's lovely mountain range in the background, yet incorporating a bit of Boise's backdrop. Thus the flat topped hill with the cross on it. This "hill" is called TableRock and on top of it is a huge cross that is lights up every night so you can see it for miles around. That is my son, Alex, in the foreground throwing the football at the target. There were a lot more people everywhere, but I found it much too difficult to include them all since they moved around too fast. I am sending this off to Kerstin today!
Here is how the two places look together. :)

Lee's Moly
I just completed my contribution this month to Lee's Moly and now it's on the way to Lisa. The Hawaii idea intrigued me, so I decided to keep with that and printed out some of my previous beach sketches for reference. I included some little critters too, to tie into Lee's wonderfully playful motif.
I've been experimenting a bit with how to best add color to this paper (blogged about that here). Last time I used watercolor pencils, but this time I combined those with regular Prismacolor colored pencils of which I have many. I think I prefer the results with watercolor pencils alone: I'll go back to that next time.

Selfportrait ready to go out!
Finally I´m done with Lisa´s Moleskine.
Sometimes I have difficulties with self portraits (specially those showing teeth), then I don´t know how to use pencils for drawing (except for outlines). And the biggest difficulty: Lisa had left out the first set of pages by mistake. I filled them up, but I can tell you it was really hard for me to fill the page with the borders of the next artwork on the right side. It is much easier when the border is on the left side and you just continue drawing it. I was very unhappy with it, but now I added some paint, some glitter and paper and now it is okay. :)

Kerstin`s book ready to go

My drawings on Kerstin`s book
I never draw about mythology, so it would be a great experience and practice to me. I started to draw Kerstion`s book after one day I receive her book, first I just drawed a piece, then I add other items alittle bit in next few days(but I think it looks kind of messy :-O)
gonna send to Leah next week!

Place
I was inspired by a sketch I did recently at the Domaine Carneros winery in Napa and decided to use an expanded version of it to start off my Moly.
The book's theme is "Place", but feel free to interpret that loosely or ignore it. Also, if you'd like to interact with other art in the book please do so.
I included some of my cards in the back pocket: take one, and if you'd like add some of your own.
Here are the front title and sign-in pages:

Almost done...
I'm still working on my first entry. Need to work on the shadows in my face a bit more, the wings, and finish the background. I will have this done and ready to mail off to Kerstin (in Germany) tomorrow. I kind of messed up on the pages however. I thought I was opened to the first page as I started roughing in the figure, however I was one whole spread off... so this is actually pages 3 & 4 you see here. I am hoping Kirsten or someone else will fill in the first couple of pages. If not, then I will fill them in the next time I see my Moly (5-6 months from now). :)
Where is my Moleskine?
Here you can check out the current position of your Moleskine:
- (1) Joyce (Occam`s razor), Taiwan - no moly
- (2) Leah Felicity (leahfelicity), USA - working on (2) and (?)
- (3) Martha (trumpetvine), USA - no moly

Well...,just as I said in this little post-it note, I don`t really set a clear theme in my book, just feel free when you get my moleskine ;)

First exchange coming up this week
We have only 3 more days to send off the Moleskines. A lot of us have already posted some scans here and the work has been fantastic and fun to look at.
As it is our first exchange, it would be nice if everybody could comment here, whether you have sent off your moleskine, if you are going to be late or maybe even have left the group ;), etc. That will help the whole group to keep up to date and to organize changes quickly.

Getting Closer.....
The theme, cover, and end pages are done...now time to work on my three pages and send it to Kerstin on Monday...
I used to draw & paint self portraits all the time as a way to express difficult emotions. Sometimes it makes me feel very uncomfortable, but who better to draw than the one I know best. When I see photos of myself I usually ponder...is that what I really look like?...with self portraits I get to portray the emotional part of who I am, which ultimately makes me look quite different than what the camera captures. So the challenge I give to my fellow Moly X 20 group is to introduce and express themselves though their own self portrait.

Yes! I got my moly today, but I still struggling in my entry, there`s no idea come to my mind these days, I`ll be pretty busy about my application for university until August, it`s been a long time since last time I went to bookstore to search some art books or magazines..., but don`t worry I`ll send my book on time.

Administrators
If there are any questions regarding the exchange just post it in the comments or maybe also write it as an extra post if it is something which may concern everybody. If it is more private, you can also send us an email.
Joyce is going to be the second administrator of the blog. We are doing this together to insure that one of us will be online so we can help you out (when needed). Sometimes I´m not online (Saturday, vacation, holidays, etc.) and then it is nice to know that there is someone taking care of any issues. Thanks Joyce!
BTW: This Friday afternoon till Monday night I won´t be online. I hope to come back to lots of new images here. (Just kidding!)

Moleskine Sketch
Gabi Campanario (whose art I admire) has drawn a wonderful drawing of the Japanese fold Moleskine. On it you can see that if there are 6 participants and if you start with the first pull out page, everybody gets the chance to draw 2.5 pages twice in every Moleskine. That means all the moleskines will be completed at the same time.
What do you think? Do you want the art to blend in your Moleskine? Or do you prefer to have each extra? Will you have themes? Or will you leave that open for each artist?
© by Gabi Campanario
I think it will be nice to keep this in mind, but it doesn´t matter if one uses a bit more or a bit less space. I also like the idea of using half pages. That makes the blending easier. What do you think? Do you want the art to blend in your Moleskine? Or do you prefer to have each extra? Will you have themes?
